题目:The importance of Saint Thomas Institutions in Chilean Higher Education

The tertiary education in Chile began in 1622 during the colonial period. The origins of Higher Education in Chile as we know it today dates from 1747, when Universidad de San Felipe was founded, this University in 1843 become Universidad de Chile. It was not until 1980 that the Higher Education in Chile had important changes. That year it was permitted the establishment of private universities without state funding. In this period, in the year 1988, Universidad Santo Tomas was founded. However, the Santo Tomas Educational System had presence in tertiary education system since 1975, offering at that time technical careers. Today Santo Tomas Educational System has over 82,000 registered students and have100,000 graduated, in its branches from Arica to Punta Arenas, from its University, Professional Institute and Technical Training Centre. Its main areas of development and degrees are management, sciences, social sciences, law, communications and design, education and preschool education, veterinary medicine and natural resources, health care, sport science, engineering and hospitality.
