关于讲座：This seminar traces the evolution of PSE systems in British Columbia, Ontario and Québec over a 30 year period. Using a policy sociology approach we analyze and compare the impact of PSE policies. The most important substantive policy themes to emerge from our analysis are accessibility, accountability,marketization,labour force development and research and development. The Canadian team employed a comparative, multiple, nested case study research design. Given the constitutional division of powers between the federal and provincial governments we contend that Canada provides a unique, laboratory-type setting for comparative work on PSE systems and that the cases are somewhat representative of the provinces as a whole in Canada. To allow for effective comparison we attempt to make the three case study chapters commensurate and compatible. Our sociology of higher education lens brings together the political economy of PSE with the five major policy themes and places this analysis within the current debates concerning the role of PSE in the process of re-structuring the state and focuses on the relationships between PSE policy and economic and social development.
